Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
It was established in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly, and is an opportunity to increase awareness and support actions directed at promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
The Town of Collingwood Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) is collaborating with AccessNow, a platform that maps accessibility locally and globally. Using mapping technology, AccessNow empowers people to discover accessible places, make better decisions and remove barriers.
With the AccessNow mobile app and web platform, people can search for places in the community based on levels of accessibility considering features such as accessible parking and washrooms, service-animal friendly, automatic doors and more.
Featuring over 260,000 locations in 34 countries around the world, AccessNow literally helps place Town of Collingwood facilities and businesses on the accessibility map.
The Accessibility Advisory Committee will be uploading accessibility information on Town facilities, including public spaces, and is encouraging the community to get involved.
The platform is free and easy to use. To learn more, please click here.
