A local summit on clean energy innovation and recovery was held in Saugeen Shores on Monday.
It was hosted by the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) and Bruce Power and focused on innovation in the industry and the impact it can have on the local economy and on Ontario’s economy.
A release from the (NII) says over 150 people took part in the virtual event, including local Progressive Conservative MPPs Bill Walker (Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound) and Lisa Thompson (Huron-Bruce), as well as representatives from local economic development agencies and from the Counties.
The summit focused on innovative efforts of the clean energy industry and economic opportunities in Bruce, Grey and Huron.
It was noted that in 2020, Tiverton based Bruce Power and its nuclear supply chain boosted Ontario’s GDP by more than $4 billion.
The event also highlighted six new new Bruce Power suppliers in the region: Laurentis Energy Partners, Makwa-Cahill, Nucleom, Plan Group, PCL Construction, and Westinghouse.
Participants discussed opportunities for the area to lead in a clean post-pandemic recovery, including carbon sequestration in agriculture, energy stability and the production of medical isotopes.
Bruce County Warden Janice Jackson, Co-chair for the Clean Energy Frontier Program, stated during the event, “The clean energy work happening in this region continues to deliver investment, job creation and growth to communities across the Clean Energy Frontier.”
Bruce Power President and CEO Mike Rencheck says, “Bruce Power is committed to working with suppliers who are landing in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties and throughout Canada to ensure that we capitalize on the strong momentum that we have created in the region.”
