While Goderich’s shoreline boardwalk is complete, Mayor John Grace says there is still work to do at the town’s three beaches.
Part of the boardwalk was destroyed in the Fall of 2019, after a pair of wind storms prompted high waves along the Lake Huron shoreline.
The town spent over $1 million to stabilize the shoreline, before installing the new boardwalk.
Just over two years later, Mayor Grace says the new boardwalk should hold up against adverse weather.
“We really think the engineers have done a phenomenal job in making sure that we have the right structure in place, that we supported everything correctly,” Grace says.
As for other features along the Goderich shoreline, Grace says more work will be completed following the winter.
“The biggest thing will the landscaping now. Additional trees put in, additional grass put in.”
Several features appeared along the Goderich shoreline over the summer of 2021.
A gazebo was completed on the south side of the town’s Water Treatment Plant, donated by the Jasper family.
The Mayor also points to an additional 25 benches along the town’s shoreline.
