Charges have been laid by Kawartha Lakes OPP after a 10-month-old infant ingested an opioid-based substance in the Town of Woodville.
Police and paramedics responded to a report last Tuesday of a child in distress who had been exposed to opioids.
The child was taken to a Toronto area hospital in critical condition.
Police say one person fled the scene, and was later arrested upon attempting to re-enter it, but the individual will not be named to protect the identity of the victim.
The accused has been charged with:
Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm
Fail to provide the Necessaries of Life
Mischief – two counts
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay, at a later date.
