Owen Sound Police have arrested and charged a Durham mother and her daughter for allegedly stealing from several businesses in the area.
City Police say an employee at an east side retail business observed two females stealing several items from the store on Sunday. The employee contacted Owen Sound Police and continued to observe the two females as they left the store and entered another business.
Police did not disclose what business specifically this alleged incident occurred at.
According to Owen Sound Police, officers arrived in the area and quickly located and arrested two females in the parking lot as they tried to return to their vehicle.
Police say a subsequent investigation was conducted with the assistance of staff members from a number of retail businesses in the area.
“It was determined that the two females were responsible for thefts from a total of five area businesses,” Owen Sound Police say in a release.
City Police say the investigation revealed the accused females were a mother and her daughter working together to steal property.
The 49-year-old mother and 29-year-old daughter, both from Durham, were charged with five counts of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
Nearly $2,500 worth of stolen goods were seized by officers and returned, city police say.
