The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing the circumstances of a fatal collision in Grey County this past weekend, after a driver fled from a West Grey Police officer.
The SIU says preliminary information suggests a West Grey Police officer tried to stop a driver in the area of Priceville at about 1:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
According to the SIU, the driver of the vehicle fled and was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Grey County Road 4 near Concession 2, east of Durham.
The man in the vehicle that was struck by the fleeing driver died at the scene. Two other passengers in the vehicle hit suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that fled suffered serious injuries as well.
Bayshore Broadcasting News reached out to West Grey Police Chief Rob Martin for more information about the incident, but he was unable to comment as the SIU has invoked its mandate and is conducting its investigation.
Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case, the SIU says.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials including police officers that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians.
