Last week, Doug Flowers & Dave Middleton from the Port Elgin Chrysler 22 Ontario Tankard presented by Bruce Power stopped by the station for a quick update.
The 2022 Ontario Men’s Curling Championship will be hosted by the Port Elgin Curling Club February 9th to 13th and will utilize The Plex in Port Elgin for the matches.
According to Doug Flowers, who is the Steering Committee Chair, preparations are progressing extremely smoothly.
The various committees have the Championship agenda, both on and off the ice, in place and the stated desire at this point is to have every detail looked after, or looked after in short order,
Ticket sales have been very good. They’ve only offered ” Event ” tickets to this point. Come January 1st, they’ll have single game or single day tickets available.
That’s not to say they don’t have dilemmas from an organizational standpoint in Port Elgin.
We told you earlier, they had almost 50 % more volunteers than needed apply to participate and assist. That created a pleasant, if not awkward, situation in which some people were informed their services weren’t needed.
On another level, the Tankard coincides with the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.
The Canadian Olympic team could very well be John Epping’s rink from Leaside.
So, from a Port Elgin standpoint, do you root for Epping to win the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials this month in Saskatoon and represent Canada at the Olympics ?
…….Or do you silently root against Epping at the Trials on the expectation that he would add depth to the field of teams at the Port Elgin Chrysler 22 Ontario Tankard presented by Bruce Power ?
Interesting scenario.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
