An emergency winter shelter for homeless individuals in Huron County is returning for the sixth year.
The “Huron Out of the Cold” emergency shelter offers wrap-around supports for homeless individuals in Huron County, including staff specially trained in trauma informed care, substance use, and mental health services.
The emergency shelter will be located at Lakeshore United Church in Goderich and will be able to accommodate up to 15 individuals per evening, with meals provided, for the cold weather season.
Out of the Cold began in the winter of 2016-17, as a collaboration between churches and the Huron County Social and Property Services.
Since the opening of the shelter in 2020, sixteen individuals have been successfully, permanently homed with assistance from the Heart to Home Stability Team.
This team will continue their efforts in the 2021/22 season.
The County of Huron will be working with Choices for Change and CMHA Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services, in this year’s Out of the Cold program.
This year’s winter shelter will open November 15th.
