Barrie Police has expanded its online crime reporting options to include: Disturbing the Peace, Trespassing and Suspicious Circumstances.
The online service requires users to input information on the date and time of the occurrence, contact information for the person reporting, and details of what took place.
There is also the option to add information on people or vehicles involved in the occurrence.
Occurrences reported through the Citizens Online Reporting option are received and investigated by officers in the Alternate Response Unit.
Disturb the Peace can be used when reporting someone who is engaging in disorderly conduct, which is causing a disturbance. This may include fighting, screaming, shouting swearing, insulting or obscene language or being impaired.
Trespass to Property can be used when someone enters or remains on the property of another without permission or right to do so, for example, an unwelcome person remains at your house, property, or business.
Suspicious Circumstances should be used when reporting someone who is engaged in questionable or suspicious behaviour, such as suspected drug use or criminal behaviour, or property or vehicle damage that may have been involved in a crime. If these suspicious behaviours are being reported after the fact, they can be reported online; however, if they are immediately occurring, please call 911 if there is a danger to persons or property.
These three new online reporting options are in addition to the existing online reporting options which include:
- Bullying
- Damage/Mischief to Property
- Damage/Mischief to Vehicle
- Lost Property
- Theft from Vehicle
- Theft Under $5,000
- Theft of Gas
- Traffic Complaint
Members of the public can still call the Barrie Police non-emergency line at 705-725-7025 at any time and follow the prompts to have officers respond to a non-emergency occurrence. The online service is not meant to take reports of emergency situations, where 911 should be used. In an emergency, always dial 911.
