The World Series begins tonight in Houston as the Astros face the Atlanta Braves in the opener of the 2021 Fall Classic
Framber Valdez will throw the first pitch for the Astros while the Braves will go with Charlie Morton in Game 1
The Astros aren’t a total surprise to be in the World Series having won 95 times in the regular season before finishing both the White Sox & the Red Sox in the post season.
Outside of Tampa Bay, nobody won more games in the American League than Houston.
As for the Braves, that is a bit surprising.
Not that Atlanta is a pretender, but in the National League handicapping heading to the post season, they were almost an afterthought.
The San Francisco Giants had the most wins over the course of the season.
The L.A. Dodgers had one less win
Milwaukee won the Central Division with 7 more victories than Atlanta.
And had the playoffs commenced in mid-September, then the smart money might have been on the St Louis Cardinals.
But that is the beauty of post season baseball, in that any playoff team can find the magic at the right time and go on a run.
Going into the World Series, the Astros are the oddsmakers favorite at – 155.
However, Atlanta has already beaten the odds, the Brewers and the Dodgers. Can they keep the magic alive against Houston ?
