Simcoe County councillors are considering a plan plan to turn the former OPP detachment on highway 400 in Barrie, into 150 units of affordable housing. The property was purchased by the county from the provincial government and the existing building will soon be demolished.
Council’s committee of the whole will receive a report Tuesday recommending the land be developed into an affordable housing complex consisting of two multi storey wings. In addition to affordable housing, the building might also include a child care center.
There is still design work needed , and money to fund the building needs to be finalized, but construction could be underway sometime in 2024.
