The Port Elgin Chrysler ’22 Ontario Tankard Presented by Bruce Power is set for February 9th to 13th and the organizing committee has a dilemma- a BIG dilemma.
The dilemma pertains to volunteers for Tankard Week.
And the heart of the issue is the number of volunteers……put quite simply…..they have too many !!
In what Tankard Chair Doug Flowers describes as ” an embarrassment of riches “, the number of people who have stepped forward to assist with the Tankard has far exceeded what they thought they might need.
Flowers relates the initial projection for volunteer numbers was between 175 and 200 people. He says within weeks of posting the need for volunteers, the organizers received more than 250 applicants.
All of which means, in an extremely unique case, they’ll actually have to inform civic minded and sports oriented people that they’re not needed.
Remarkable.
Otherwise, Doug Flowers says the planning and preparation process has been extremely smooth.
He says the buzz in Saugeen Shores and around the province pertaining to the Tankard at The Plex is very positive and the level of awareness, above and beyond the traditional curling community, is rock solid.
Flowers believes curling in Ontario, and Canada, enjoys a high profile thanks to TV and even those who have never set foot in a curling club have a working knowledge of the names and skill level of the players expected to compete at the Port Elgin Chrysler ’22 Ontario Tankard Presented by Bruce Power.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
