Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.
Pete’s Auto Body; because we care about our community….
There was lots of hockey news in the region last week
Probably the biggest news came out of Montreal where the Canadiens of the National Hockey League agreed to terms with center Nick Suzuki on an 8-year contract extension.
When the contract kicks in next season, it’ll make Suzuki the Canadiens highest-paid skater.
Imagine that…..
Just 3 years ago, Nick Suzuki, a low-maintenance, maybe no-maintenance, player was named captain of the Owen Sound Attack for considerably less money.
Good for Nick who annually achieves in hockey and likely would have been the Attack all time franchise leader in both goals and points had he not been traded to Guelph.
Another former captain, albeit with the Guelph Storm, Garrett McFadden was named as a Hockey Canada Community Champion
The program is focused on highlighting Canadians that make a positive impact on the hockey community.
McFadden who hails from Kincardine was honoured for founding McFadden’s Movement which is designed to change, help and develop mental health among athletes starting at the grassroots level.
And finally at the grassroots or Minor Hockey level, the Shallow Lake Lakers were among the OMHA organizations to receive free equipment thanks to Egg Farmers of Ontario and the new Player Assist Program
From top to bottom, from the NHL level to the Shallow Lake Lakers there were a number of positive hockey notes last week.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
