I spent Tuesday night in Allenford at their lovely Ball Park watching the Grey Bruce Ladies Fastball League Championship Game.
The Desboro Royals took the 2021 Championship winning by a narrow margin of 7-6 over the Tara Ladies.
The Royals got off to a great start, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.
With Maddy Moore throwing shutout innings and helping her own cause with a sequence of 3 doubles to right field, it appeared the issue would be decided early as Desboro led 3-0.
However, Tara managed to rally with 3 runs in back to back innings highlighted by clutch doubles from Heidi McLeod and Courtney Cahoon and suddenly Tara was on top with a 6-5 lead in the 6th.
The Royals though would regroup in their half of the inning. Amanda Gill drove in Patty Scarrow with the tying run and then Gill would eventually come around with the game winning marker on a fielder’s choice
Desboro held Tara off in the top of the 7th, stranding the potential tying run at first, giving the Royals the title.
For early October, it was a lovely night for fastball in Allenford which featured an impressive Championship Game in the Grey Bruce Ladies League.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
