Former Owen Sound golfer Austin Ryan came back to the area and shot rounds of 71-68 to win the Toronto Players Tour Mike Doyle Championship at Cobble Beach Golf Links.
He collects $4,200 for his win today.
Ryan was a multiple-time champion on the Grey-Bruce Junior Golf Tour and was a standout on the Wilfrid Laurier University golf team before turning pro.
Among the competitors at Cobble was Keaton Jones, grandson of Mike Doyle, the former Director of Operations for Cobble Beach.
The Toronto Players Tour decided to honor Mr. Doyle by naming the year-end championship after him.
Mr. Doyle was well-liked and respected and he played a pivotal role in establishing Cobble Beach Golf Links as one of the top golf courses in the country.
He was the first Director of Operations at Cobble Beach, which is annually ranked among the top 100 golf courses in Canada (21st in 2020).
Mike Doyle died March 17 at age 80 after his fourth battle with cancer.
