Road closures in Durham for box culvert replacements are set to begin on Monday.
A release from the municipality notes as of Oct. 4, closures will be in effect while work is commencing on Garafraxa Street and between South Street and Saddler Street.
Residents are being advised two separate detour routes for local traffic are planned for cyclists, as well as other commercial trucks and heavy vehicles while the work is going on.
Traffic heading to Garafraxa Street will be routed to South Street West to Queen Street South, then onto Saddler Street West and back onto Garafraxa Street.
Commercial trucks and heavy traffic however will be directed to Douglas Street to Concession 2 WGR, then onto Hutton Hill Road to Grey Road 4, heading back onto Garafraxa Street.
The closures are expected to be in effect for about a month.
Businesses in the downtown area will still be operating during the construction and drivers are asked to be cautious and mindful of the crews.
This capital project featuring excavation and replacement of the box culvert, and reconstruction is set at a cost of just over $400,000 and is part of the province’s Connecting Link funding program, funded through the Ministry of Transportation.
The program assists municipalities repair roads and bridges which connect two ends of a provincial highway running through communities as well as to a border crossing.
In addition, West Grey has another Connecting Link project for the Garafraxa Street Bridge, approved to start in 2022.
