Collingwood council has approved a $900 thousand UV disinfection system to boost the capacity of the town’s water treatment plant.
It’ll take about a year to install, but it will mean the plant can support nearly 800 new single family homes.
In the spring, Collingwood stopped approving new developments, because the water treatment plant is nearing capacity. It’s fine to handle existing demand, but won’t be able to keep up with future growth until a major expansion is complete sometime in 2026.
This interim measure will allow some new projects to go ahead, but will not negate the need for an expanded and upgraded treatment facility.
