NHL Signing
The Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League signed left winger Kirill Kaprizov to a 5-year, $45 million contract ending a stalemate between the team and the Calder Trophy winner 2 days before the beginning of training camp.
Kaprizov had 27 goals in 55 games last season.
The St. Louis Blues and restricted free agent forward Robert Thomas have agreed to a two-year, $5.6 million contract extension.
Thomas was selected 20th overall by the Blues in the 2017 NHL Draft and had 3 goals and 9 assists in 33 regular season games last year.

76th Annual WOAA General Meeting & Minor Hockey Annual Meeting were staged last night at the Wingham Legion.
The Mike Weichel Honour Award Winner is Rick Fisk from Minto.
The Gravett Family Bursary Award Winner is Tyler Murray from Lucknow.
And the David H. Jacobi President’s Award Winner is Rick Vivian from Mitchell.

Dave grown up in the Oil Springs area in southwestern Ontario. He re-located to the Grey-Bruce area, married Bev and for a number of years, they resided at Park Head where his young family of two sons grew up.
Dave was a teacher and taught many years at schools including Hepworth and Sauble; where he also coached many after school sports teams. He is the proud grandfather of two

Dave moved to St. Helens, ON in 1968 where he started playing Bantam Hockey and Bantam Softball.
Two area gentlemen, namely Grant Chisholm and Bill Hunter were Dave’s mentors while growing up playing sports. Dave is married to Joan and has two sons and two grandsons.
The O. M. “Mike” Weichel Trophy is an award presented annually by the W.O.A.A. Donated in 1953 by Mr. Mike Weichel of Elmira who was a well known sports enthusiast throughout the Western Ontario region. In presenting the trophy to the W.O.A.A., it was his desire to ensure that the people in this area be recognized and rewarded for their outstanding efforts in minor sports. He devoted endless hours to sports serving in many capacities, providing actual contributions and assistance.
Rick Fisk
The Fisk family in the Harriston and Minto area have long been known for their community involvement. K.R. as the local Vet and Mayor of Harriston, Terry as local Vet and Councillor in Minto, Norm as long-time municipal employee and Rick for his involvement with recreation and sport.
Rick has given the majority of his life to the betterment of Harriston and Minto Recreation. Starting with his coaching and being involved in Harriston minor sports, progressing onto minor sport executives including being a key player in negotiating the amalgamation of Palmerston/Harriston Minor hockey into Minto Minor
Hockey in the early 90’s.
Rick has not only been involved with sport but he has great success as well.
Harriston Minor Ball from Mite to Bantam as a coach with several of these being championship teams.
Coaching the Harriston Mercury’s becoming OASA Champions in 2000 and 2003 along with being coach of the OASA Masters Champions.
The Mercury’s also participated and met success in several ISC Tournaments with Rick as Coach, becoming Champions in 2003 and 2004.
He was also a Coach on the amalgamated Wellington Team which won the ISC title in 2010.
Through this same time Rick joined the Executive of the Minto 81’s [Palmerston/Mapleton) in 1999 becoming General Manager in 2006. A title which he still holds today.
Tyler Murray
Tyler Murray began playing minor hockey at 4 years of age with Lucknow Minor Hockey & play d 17 years with Lucknow Minor Hockey,
Tyler has been a committed and dedicated team member, and was the Assistant Captain of the Huron-Bruce Juvenile team this past season, which competed in the Juvenile International Silver Stick Tournament in Mooretown, Ontario.
Tyler has also volunteered for Lucknow / Huron-Bruce Minor Hockey, being a student on ice helper with younger age group teams
Tyler has also obtained his Development I National Coach Certification, and volunteered with the Peewee Development Team during the 2015-16 season.
In addition to coaching, Tyler has been an OMHA certified Referee for 6 years,
Tyler Murray is an active volunteer within our community, helping with many other events and service groups in town.
He was also the recipient of the Lucknow Juvenile Silver Stick Scholarship.

– Rick served as the chairman of the WOAA Referee committee – 2000 – 2002
Rick never refuses when called upon the help out our organization, has done hundreds of trophy presentations on behalf of the WOAA and assists with the updating of the WOAA By-Laws and Sports Manuals of Operations.
Upon his recent retirement as Mitchell Arena Manager; he is now looking after our WOAA website.
