The province’s vaccine certificate program comes into effect today.
That means people will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of their vaccination status in order to access certain businesses and facilities.
You can get a copy of your vaccine certificate, by clicking here.
Premier Doug Ford said the system is necessary to slow the spread of the virus while helping to avoid further lockdowns.
The vaccine certificates will be needed to access places such as:
-Meeting and event spaces
-Sports and fitness facilities
-Casinos
-Concerts
-Movie theatres
-Nightclubs
Restaurants and bars (excluding outdoor patios, as well as delivery and takeout);
However, these requirements will not apply to settings where people receive medical care, food from grocery stores, medical supplies, etcetera.
Individuals who cannot receive the vaccine due to medical exemptions will be permitted entry with a doctor’s note, while children under 11 who are unable to be vaccinated will also be exempted from these requirements.
For the period between September 22 and October 12, 2021, it is intended that people attending wedding or funeral receptions at meeting or event spaces will be able to provide a negative rapid antigen COVID-19 test from no more than 48 hours before the event as an alternative to proof of vaccination. These rapid antigen tests would have to be privately purchased.
The government also released the regulations and guidance for businesses and organizations to support them in implementing proof of vaccination requirements.
The province aims to launch a QR code and verification app for businesses to streamline the process next month (October 22, 2021).
