Staff at the Township of Georgian Bay have made the tough decision to close all facilities except the MacTier Arena ice surface to the public.
They say the decision comes after reviewing the Provincial requirements for Proof of Vaccination for Businesses and Organizations, which came into effect today.
The Township says it has made the difficult decision to close the following recreation facilities: Baxter Ward Community Centre and MacTier Community Centre, with the exception of the MacTier Arena ice surface and spectator area, which will continue to be available throughout the winter season to vaccinated individuals.
The Provincial legislation mandates that Township staff must be present whenever a facility is being used by the public in order to confirm the vaccination status of each person entering the building. Unfortunately, this requirement cannot be delegated to non-employees. The Township is not in a position to staff the facilities to perform these checks due to personnel number limitations.
The Township is continuing to communicate with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and the Province in an effort to be able to reopen the Township’s facilities to the public.
