Owen Sound council has signed off on a new collective agreement with the city’s unionized outside workers.
Council approved a staff recommendation at Monday night’s meeting to ratify a memorandum of settlement and execute a new collective agreement between the city and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1189-01. No word if CUPE members have ratified it yet.
CUPE 1189-01 represents more than 50 outside workers — 38 full-time — in the city’s community services and public works & engineering departments.
A report by Owen Sound’s Human Resources Manager Melissa Clancy explains this includes employees such as equipment operators, wastewater operators, seasonal parks and open space workers and arborists.
The term of the new agreement is three years and will end on March 31, 2024. It includes an annual wage increase of 1.5 per cent.
The pay increase for outside workers is in line with what the city’s unionized inside employees received in their new agreement with the city reached earlier this year.
