The Municipality of Brockton has lifted its pandemic state of emergency.
It had been in place since March 23rd 2020.
Other Grey Bruce communities that have lifted their states of emergency include Saugeen Shores and Kincardine.
These municipalities have all noted they can reinstate it if needed and that Ontario health orders are still in place.
Brockton says, declaring an emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act gives municipal governments access to tools, funding, and resources to protect residents’ health and safety. As the pandemic continues, and the community gradually reopens with standard operating procedures in place, the state of emergency is no longer needed.
Mayor Chris Peabody says, “The residents and businesses of Brockton have been diligent in response to the challenges we have faced in the community as a result of the pandemic. Locally we see a low rate of new cases and the vaccination rates continue to rise which allows us to consider this next step. It is time for our community to move forward adapting to living with COVID-19 and our new normal. This does not mean the pandemic is over. This is a step towards re-opening our community as our staff continue to adapt and deliver essential services to the community.”
According to a release from the Municipality, in Grey Bruce, 83 per cent of eligible residents (12+) have one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 77 per cent are fully vaccinated.
