Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

The 2021 Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular concluded about 10 days ago..
In the aftermath, with a few days to reflect on the proceedings, Derby co-chair Chris Geberdt labelled the event as ” awesome “, citing the number of anglers attracted, the weather conditions and the persistent joy of those involved to conduct and participate in the derby after a one year hiatus due to COVID-19
So, we asked Chris Geberdt a very direct question; which version of the Salmon Spectacular do you prefer ?
The Salmon Spectacular with the festival atmosphere and the massive tent with nightly entertainment ?
Or the scaled back Salmon Spectacular like the 2021 event ?
The answer from Chris Geberdt was equally direct.
He relates the Salmon Spectacular most likely will do a tiny turn and head slightly back to its initial roots with a fishing derby at the core.
The BIG Tent with the entertainment and the crowds they attracted were always fun, but the wear and tear in terms of hours consumed on the organizers and volunteers was notable.
Geberdt believes there will be a BIG tent going forward, but late night entertainment may be a thing of the past and the new concept would be to have afternoon and early evening performances that are attractive to family units.
You won’t find the derby organizers or the Sydenham Sportsmen praising COVID 19, but the restrictions in place this year allowed them to look at their event in a different form, evaluate various aspects and consider modifications that conceivably will make the 2022 Salmon Spectacular even better.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
