Beth Blowes, Goderich & Area Community Committee chair, tells Country 104.9 News the United Way will continue to help those negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the wake of the pandemic, the United Way launched the Urgent Needs Funds, which helps those in need pay for bills and groceries.
Blowes says homelessness will also continue to be a focus in the upcoming campaign.
“Things are homelessness are definitely a concern that came forward in the pandemic,” Blowes says.
“Mental health, social isolation — some of those things just don’t go away at the drop of a dime.”
The United Way will also be introducing the “Leadership Project” during this year’s campaign.
Blowes tells us local YMCA branches will help to improve youth mental health by engaging them with their communities through various leadership opportunities.
The United Way will kick off its 2021-2022 fundraising campaign Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Goderich Farmer’s Market.
