Grey Bruce OPP say a section of Bruce Road 13 between Southampton and Sauble Beach will likely remain closed for several days after a severe storm Tuesday afternoon.
It’s closed from Pashwood Drive to Eckford Avenue.
Police say at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, several calls for service came in from the area. Trees and powerlines were knocked down creating numerous, potentially highly dangerous situations.
Emergency crews remain on scene Wednesday and are working to clean up the damage. Police are asking drivers to avoid the area for safety reasons.
It’s expected the closure will remain in effect for several days.
Meanwhile OPP Constable Nick Wilson says so far, to the best of his knowledge there haven’t been any reported injuries. He says when they started getting calls at about 4:45 Tuesday afternoon, mostly in the area of Bruce Road 13 about trees blocking the road and downed power lines, officers also did cottage checks to ensure any occupants were okay.
Wilson wants to stress to the community that people should not be going around road barriers. He says they are up to keep hydro and tree clearing crews safe and keep drivers away from hazards. He says that has been an issue and is asking for the community’s understanding while debris is being cleared.
He also notes that ignoring a traffic barrier is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act.
