The Collingwood Public Library is unboxing new technology with funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
Tech Connected will offer seniors an opportunity to experience Virtual Reality (VR) programs assisting participants to travel around the world, discover a new museum, attend a musical performance or play an immersive game through the convenience of a headset.
Virtual Reality equipment will be incorporated into the mobile technology program delivered by the Collingwood Public Library as well as included in fall programming for seniors.
Tech Connected also includes new tablets with hot spots that can be borrowed by library card holders. The tablet-lending program aims to assist Seniors without access to technology or the internet, to complete forms online, participate in virtual programs or connect with family and friends. Tablets are easy to use, lightweight and can be safely transported.
“Our tablet-lending program will help seniors participate in the many virtual programs we have introduced over the last year including chair yoga, book club or knitters’ corner” said Lori Crossan Coordinator, Adult & Senior Programs at the Collingwood Public Library.
Tech Connected has been made possible with funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program, supporting over 3,000 community-based projects across the country with a focus on helping foster social inclusion and improve seniors’ health and well-being.
