If you own property along the bluffs of Lake Huron, conservation officials suggest learning about possible risks to your home.
The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority is hosting a webinar on bluff failures and bluff safety for lakefront property owners.
“High water levels over the past two years have caused toe erosion (bottom of the bluff) in some areas that will cause top of bluff failures in the future,” the MVCA says.
“There are many people who purchased property recently and may not realize that failures are an issue. Grading the bank in the past may also mislead landowners about where the risk is.”
The webinar on bluff erosion will hear from Shoreline Technician Shannon Millar, who will review the science behind inevitable bluff failures.
Millar will also outline how to identify possible signs of a failure and who to contact if you have concerns.
The webinar runs Wednesday September 8 at 7:00 p.m., and those who wish to attend can contact Millar by e-mail at coastal@mvca.on.ca .
