A Southgate man has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the federal election in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
Retired businessman, farmer Reima Kaikkonen has announced his intention to run on a platform of “faith, freedom, life, liberty and opportunity.”
On his website, Kaikkonen says he is a Christian Evangelist. He says in a release, “I believe we need a strong voice in Ottawa, proclaiming our Charter rights and freedoms under the supremacy of God and rule of law. These are the godly principles wherein our country was founded. It’s time we restore the foundations that our forefathers established, including the division of powers in the Canada Constitution, 1867. It is from this vantage point that this country was prosperous, and opportunities everywhere.”
Kaikkonen intends to enter the election race against Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Conservative candidate and Incumbent MP Alex Ruff, Liberal Anne Marie Watson, People’s Party candidate Anna-Marie Fosbrooke and Libertarian Dan Little.
So far, Ruff is the only candidate in the riding who has been officially confirmed as a candidate by Elections Canada.
Election Day is September 20th. Advanced voting is set for September 10th to the 13th.
