Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

I didn’t watch a lot of tennis this week with the Canadian stops on the WTA and ATP Tour.
Obviously I don’t watch a lot of tennis at all, otherwise I would have known the Rogers Cup is now the National Bank Open, but that’s a discussion for another day.
The one match I tuned into was a week ago, when the Blue Jays were idle, so I took in Vasek Pospisil and Tommy Paul
When I tuned in, Pospisil was leading 1 set to none after a 7-6 victory but was trailing 1-4 in the second set.
Something was obviously amiss as the TV commentators suggested Pospisil should throw the final 2 games of the 2nd set and see if he could recharge in the deciding set.
The issue for Vasek Pospisil, who would eventually lose the match in 3 sets, was the heat and his body.
Time after time, Pospisil was seen consuming all kinds of liquids; water, sport drinks, sport drinks with packets of salt and even a Pepsi at courtside, which is highly unusual.
Afterwards, Pospisil opened the curtain on the challenge he faces in high humidity….
…You can hear the pain and discouragement in his voice
Watching Vasek Pospisil struggle on the court and wobble during the breaks was painful, but likely not nearly as painful as the cramps he was trying to overcome nor the knowledge that because tennis is played outdoors generally in warm climate locations, those issues will likely be with him going forward including this week when he’s scheduled to compete at Cincinnati in the Western and Southern.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
