OPP are suggested some preventative measures to avoid vehicle break-ins, following a rash of thefts in Blyth.
According to OPP, three thefts from vehicles were reported during the early morning hours of August 8th in the North Huron town.
A window was reportedly smashed out of a pickup truck on Morris Street, where thieves stole a wallet in the centre console.
Police report another window smashed on a truck on Gypsy Line, where $8 thousand in power tools were stolen.
Power tools were also stolen from a locked enclosed trailer on Dinsley Street, OPP say.
To avoid having valuables taken from your vehicle, provincial police have several suggestions:
- Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the door and pocket the key
- If you have a garage, use it. Lock the door and the vehicle
- Ensure outside lights work and consider motion sensor lighting
- Never leave valuable objects in plain view. Items such as loose change, cell phones, wallets, purses, medication, firearms, alcohol and tools are highly targeted.
“Suspicious vehicles and suspicious activity should be reported to police as soon as possible so that an officer can investigate,” OPP say.
