Tara Twins Recaps
The U10 Tara Twins hosted the West Qualifier in Tara on Saturday.
The Twins jumped out to a 4-0 lead and then were back and forth with the Elmira Heat the rest of the game, going into the last inning tied at 9.
The Heat put a 6 run rally together in their half of the inning that the Twins couldn’t match, falling 15-9 to the eventual champs.
Cole Weir pitched for the Twins, also chipping in with a double and RBI.
Connor Hesch had 3 hits including 2 doubles for the Twins.
Next up for the Twins was the Wilmot Thunder Majors.
Hunter Thompson pitched a gem, but the Twins fell in extra innings 13-12.
The final game for the Twins was against the Wilmot Thunder Minors, and it too was another back and forth, edge of your seat game.
Bennett Bloomfield and Cole Weir pitched for the Twins, with some great defence behind them, the Twins were able to walk off the Thunder with a game winning RBI from Hailey Hammell in the last inning.
The Twins finished 3rd in the West and head to Drumbo and Princeton this coming weekend for the Provincial Championships.
They will face Napanee Blue and Wimot Thunder Majors before the playoff round. Napanee Red, Havelock, Wilmot Thunder Minors and Elmira Heat round out the teams in the tournament.
The U12 Tara Twins had won 4 games over the weekend in league play.
The Twins hosted the PDP Lightning Saturday in Wiarton.
The first game was 15-6 and the second was 14-12.
Zak Hamilton, Ethan Sopkowe, Nathan Miller and Jackson Kuhl all pitched Saturday for the Twins, with Mason Bell carrying the offence and hitting 2 home runs.
Sunday the U12 Twins travelled to Norwich to play the Norwich Otters and the Wilmot Thunder.
Zak Hamilton threw a complete game win, 10-4.
The Twins then took on the Wilmot Thunder, with Ethan Sopkowe leading the way, throwing a complete game shutout.
The game was close until the final at bat for the Twins, when they blew a 3-0 lead wide open into a 10-0 eventual final score.
The U12 Tara Twins are off to Drumbo and Princeton as well for the provincial championships, kicking things off Saturday morning at 11 in a true double knockout tournament.
Should they win that, they will play Saturday afternoon at 5, likely against the tournament favourite Elmira Heat.
The U14 Tara Twins had a big weekend in New Hamburg for the elimination/qualifier tournament.
The Twins were playing for seeding for their upcoming provincial tournament in Napanee this weekend, and also for seeding at the Eastern Canadian Championships in New Brunswick later this month.
The Twins kicked off the tournament with an 8-2 victory over St. George.
They followed that up with a back and forth battle, ending in a 9-6 loss to Springbrook.
That dropped Tara down to the bottom of the true double knockout tournament.
Tara finished Saturday off with a 15-8 win over Wilmot-New Hamburg.
Sunday morning the Twins kicked off against Napanee at 9 am, beating their rivals from the east 5-3.
That put them into a rematch against Springbrook in the semi final.
The Twins pulled out an extra inning win 9-7 to get into the championship final.
In the final, the Twins faced the favoured New Hamburg-Baden team and ran out of steam. Dropping a 13-1 loss after 4 innings.
The Twins come away with a silver medal and head into the provincials and Eastern Canadians with some momentum.
