South Bruce Peninsula is planning to mark the Civic Holiday long weekend with fireworks shows in Sauble Beach and Wiarton.
Mayor Janice Jackson says separate fireworks displays will be lit off at dusk on Saturday evening that will be visible at Bluewater Park in Wiarton and from most areas of Sauble Beach.
The town is holding the fireworks this weekend after calling off its displays on Canada Day in support of neighbouring First Nations communities, following the discovery of unmarked graves at former residential school sites in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
“We figured that the Civic Holiday weekend would be a perfect time to let those fireworks go,” Jackson says. “I think it’s going to be a terrific show. And we’re very excited about it.”
The fireworks planned in South Bruce Peninsula this weekend are being accompanied by free outdoor classical music concerts, Jackson says. There will be a show on Friday at 1 p.m. in Wiarton at Bluewater Park. Saturday, the performance will be at Sauble’s town square at 7 p.m.
