The Northern Tornadoes Project says Saturday’s storms did include some tornado damage in Thornbury and Bayfield.
On Saturday afternoon, a tornado warning was issued for southern Bruce County, and no serious damage appears to have been reported there.
The Northern Tornadoes project says structural and tree damage was actually reported in Thornbury and Clarksburg caused by an EF0 tornado with an estimated max wind speed of 115 km/h.
No Tornado warning had been issued for that area Saturday, though there had been a severe thunderstorm watch.
On Sunday, researchers tracked a 1.07 km path that was about 90 metres wide.
They say a concurrent EF0 downburst of about 100km/h caused damage in Clarksburg.
The NTP says a witness reported a tornado east of Bayfield, supported by video and other photos captured in the vicinity.
A ground and drone survey on Sunday found isolated weak tree damage. Their Preliminary assessment is an EF0 tornado, with an estimated max wind speed of 90 km/h. The NTP is still working on reviewing some of the data.
An NTP survey team assessed 3 events related to storms on the evening of July 24 in southern ON. Results: there were weak EF0 tornadoes in the Bayfield area and in Thornbury, as well as a weak EF0 downburst in Clarksburg. An NTP survey team is headed to the Bayfield area after reports of a possible tornado (see https://t.co/mMY889J6vF), and will then head to the Thornbury area to investigate reported structural damage. Additional reports can be sent to @NTP_Reports or ntp@uwo.ca.
