A restoration project of escarpment lands between Victoria Park and St. George’s Park in Owen Sound is underway.
City officials advise the land consists of 2.9 acres and the project will include the identifying and removal of ash trees to be proactive against the invasive species Emerald Ash Borer.
Cleaning up litter around the area, as well as re-planting new trees and shrubs will also be completed.
White pine, hemlock, sugar maple, basswood, and yellow birch will be among what’s to be planted.
The removal of any marked ash trees will begin later this year or early 2022.
The purpose of the project is to improve the long-term health and quality of the forested areas.
Signs have been set up outlining the purpose and goals of the project.
