Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

Saugeen Shores, specifically Port Elgin, will be hosting a Canadian Paralympic Team qualifier on Sunday for the upcoming games at Tokyo.
Starting Sunday morning at 7:30 am, the Port Elgin Rotary Club in conjunction with the Canadian Paralympic Committee, will be conducting a marathon wheelchair race.
Already this week, officials have measured the route to ensure the distance will be 26.2 miles or 41.195 kilometres in length.
The route will utilize 4 streets in the town.
Starting on Waterloo Street, the competitors will race to Gustavus Street, head west to Bruce Street, then North to Biener and back to Waterloo Street.
To complete the marathon, the races must do this circuit….. 15 times.
There are 6 confirmed competitors as of last check and that half dozen includes Saugeen Shores native Josh Cassidy.
Cassidy who is 36 years old first came to our attention as a high school athlete at St Mary’s High School in Owen Sound when he established Bluewater Athletic records in wheelchair racing.
That was 2 decades ago and essentially he hasn’t stopped as he’s arriving for this weekend after races earlier in the week abroad.
Again, the Paralympic Qualifier starts Sunday morning at 7:30 am through the streets of Port Elgin.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
