The Grey Bruce Health Unit reported 33 new Covid cases and 23 resolved ones on Wednesday.
According to Public Health, nine people from Owen Sound, seven from Brockton, four folks from each of Saugeen Shores and South Bruce Peninsula, three from Hanover, two from Arran-Elderslie, two people from Kincardine, and residents of Meaford and South Bruce tested positive.
In a statement, Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra says: “If a loved one or someone you know is using or seeking substance, please strongly advise them to take Covid-19 precautions.”
Public Health advised recently the current increase in cases in the region is mostly related to unvaccinated people participating in two main activities: the purchase and use of substances, and attending private gatherings with symptoms.
The region’s active known case load increased slightly to 171. Fifteen Grey Bruce residents are hospitalized locally and three others are receiving care outside the area.
More than 197,000 Covid vaccine doses have been administered in the region to date.
The death toll in Grey Bruce from the virus over the course of the pandemic is now up to 13. The Health Unit says there are also three additional suspected Covid-related deaths pending confirmation.
The testing and case counts data released by the health unit on Wednesday is reflective of a 24-hour period prior to 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.
