Bracebridge’s new multi-use community centre has officially been given a name – the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre.
The naming announcement was made today – the facility’s accompanying new arena will also be called the Muskoka Lumber Arena.
A long-time Bracebridge business and community supporter, Muskoka Lumber and Building Supplies (Muskoka Lumber), is providing multi-year funding for naming rights to the new centre and the arena component to support the construction of this transformational community centre.
“We have a deep and engaged business community in Bracebridge that has been incredibly supportive of this project, but the commitment of Muskoka Lumber of $100,000 per year for 20 years is simply remarkable,” says Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith. “Muskoka Lumber is not only a significant business and employer in our town, but has been a supporter of our community for decades. I can’t think of a business that better represents all that is Bracebridge and I am delighted that their name will be on these incredible facilities for years to come. My sincere thanks on behalf of our community.”
The vibrant and accessible 126,680 square foot community centre includes a 1,000 seat arena, modern public library, community auditorium, indoor multi-sport field house, common lobby, 330 parking stalls, outdoor play spaces, trails and an area retained for a future second arena to accommodate the community’s growth projections.
“Muskoka Lumber and Building Supplies is a locally owned and operated business since 1988 and we have a long history of philanthropic giving in Muskoka,” says Jason Sifft, President of Muskoka Lumber. “The stakeholders want to continue this tradition of building communities and through this contribution, we are supporting recreation, arts and cultural opportunities to the residents and visitors to Muskoka.”
The safe, accessible spaces will support present and future needs for community engagement. Individuals and families can participate in health, wellness, sport, recreation, learning, personal development and culture and entertainment activities. The indoor and outdoor common areas encourage both active and passive participation, as well as safe spaces for interacting, mixing and meeting.
“Community facilities are where many of our employees, customers, friends and families go to enjoy their leisure time,” adds Shawn Donaldson, Director of Business Development for Muskoka Lumber. “It gives us great pleasure knowing we are able to partner with the Town in support of this project for the betterment of the community.”
This announcement comes on the heels of the Province’s decision on June 28th to provide over $16.8 million in funding so that the Bracebridge Public Library and the Multi-Sport Field House can be completed as part of the overall Bracebridge Multi-Use Community Centre, now the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre and the Muskoka Lumber Arena. Muskoka Lumber also has the ability to extend naming rights for two further ten-year terms under similar terms.
