The Grey Bruce Health Unit has issued a statement saying the current increase in cases in the region is associated with unvaccinated people participating in two main activities.
According to Public Health, one of those activities is the purchase and use of substances with others who are infected with Covid.
“Although this transmission was originally people who have challenges with housing, we are now seeing this taking place with people using substance, regardless of housing challenges,” the Health Unit says in a release.
The other activity where Public Health says transmission is occurring among mostly unvaccinated folks is private gatherings such as birthday parties.
“Particularly where some parents allowed young children to attend and mingle with others while sick with symptoms,” the Grey Bruce Health Unit advises.
Grey Bruce’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra continues to encourage everyone to get vaccinated. The Health Unit is targeting the end of July to have the majority of people in Bruce and Grey counties fully vaccinated.
“With the surge of Delta cases, there is nothing more important for every one of us in Grey Bruce this month than to ensure we get the two doses of vaccine as soon as possible,” Arra says in a statement. “Investing 30 minutes before the end of July to get the vaccine is our duty to protect ourselves, our families, and our community.”
Public Health says it has the capacity and vaccine support to complete its mass immunization campaign this month. It says this will most likely allow for the hub clinics to then be dismantled and made available to other communities in need of mass vaccinations.
