Another COVID-19 variant is spreading in Canada.
Officials at the Public Health Agency of Canada say almost a dozen (11) cases of the “Lambda” variant have been confirmed in our country, but none of the detected cases is here in Ontario, at least not yet.
The mutation was first detected in Peru a year ago.
It has been designated a “variant of interest” by the World Health Organization, is not yet a “variant of concern.”
Early data suggests “Lambda” may be more contagious than other variants – but a recent study suggests that the mRNA vaccines still protect against it.
As of June 15th, 29 countries had reported cases of the Lambda variant.
