The Stanley Cup Final resumes tonight and conceivably concludes tonight.
The Tampa Bay Lightning hold a 3-0 series lead over the Montreal Canadiens with Game 4 set for this evening at the Bell Centre.
Only once in the history of the Stanley Cup Final has a team overcome a 3-0 deficit, that being the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942 against Detroit. In fact, in the post season, there’s only been 4 occasions when a team has rallied after losing the opening 3 contests in a best of 7.
It’s highly unlikely that scenario will unfold in 2021.
I think even the most die hard Montreal fan will admit that the Canadiens have achieved, maybe over achieved to this point in the post season and only a delusional fan would dare say that Montreal has the better team on paper or on the ice.
What was most surprising to me was Montreal’s performance in Game 3.
They had momentum after being the better team in Game 2, they were getting their Head Coach back, they were at home in front of ( cough ) 3,000 fans and they should have been desperate for the victory.
Tampa Bay rammed all of that down Montreal’s throat with a very professional and precise performance.
Which beings us to tonight with Montreal possibly making lineup changes and the Lightning likely to conduct themselves in the same Takin-Care-Of-Business manner in which they’ve grabbed the series lead.
Will the Stanley Cup be awarded to Tampa Bay tonight ? If not tonight, then soon.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
