Grey Bruce OPP have charged another driver on Highway 6 on the Bruce Peninsula.
Police say on at about 8:15 Saturday night (June 26th) an officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 6, in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula for travelling at over 170 km/h in a posted 80 km/h speed limit zone.
A 22 year old Scarborough resident faces a stunt driving charge and a dangerous operation charge.
They were issued a seven-day driver’s licence suspension and their vehicle was towed and was impounded for seven days.
Meanwhile, OPP say on July 1st, penalties for stunt driving become stronger with the introduction of the Moving Ontario More Safety Act, also known as the MOMS Act.
The MOMS Act will create a lower speed threshold for stunt driving charges of driving 40 kilometres per hour or more above the speed limit on roads where the speed limit is less than 80 kilometres per hour.
The speed threshold on roads with speed limits 80 kilometres per hour or over will remain at 50 kilometres per hour or more above the speed limit on that road.
The MOMS Act will also set a default speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour on a highway not within a local municipality or a built up area.
Roadside sanctions for Stunt Driving will be:
– Fourteen day vehicle impoundment
As mentioned in previous release the 30 day licence suspension will not take effect on July 1st.
