The City of Owen Sound will not be using emergency vehicles on Canada Day to signal the start to five minutes of reflection about what Indigenous communities are coping with as hundreds of residential school children’s unmarked graves are being located in Canada.
Mayor Ian Boddy said Tuesday his office received numerous calls in opposition to a minute of sirens followed by five minutes of silence.
Boddy says the five minutes of silence will go on without the emergency vehicles.
He asks the community to use those five minutes before the fireworks to pause and reflect on where we have been as a country and how we can all work together to make it better.
