With no offence to the Montreal Canadiens, the biggest story in my view last week was the Canadian Senate giving approval to Bill C-218.
Bill C-218 amends the Criminal Code provisions pertaining to gambling on single sports games as opposed to the ProLine system that currently exists.
The next phase will see the Bill will go before the Chief Justice of Canada to be granted royal assent.
All of which leaves 3 questions………
One) What took SO LONG ?!
Two) Who are the 20 Bozos that voted against passing the Bill ?
& Three) How do the various provinces in Canada implement the new format ?
Make no mistake, provincial governments across the country have been casting a wary and envious eye for a lengthy period of time on the multi-BILLION-dollar black market world of sports betting.
The belief is redirecting that revenue into provincial government coffers would be terrific to support various government programs including addiction research, health care, education and other priorities.
Translated, the provincial governments see money they’re not currently getting and they want it and they want lots of it.
For me, there’s no doubt that I’ll participate. I’m just curious where and how I can place my sports wagers now that I’ve waited a lifetime for such an initiative.
