Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.
Pete’s Auto Body; because we care about our community….
In May of 1988 I made the transition from CFOS ” disc jockey ” to sports department.
Among my first activities that Spring was covering the Owen Sound Senior NorthStars, along with doing their play by play for what was then MacLean Hunter Cable TV.
What I knew about lacrosse you could write on the head of a pin ( people may suggest little has changed ) but from a TV standpoint I was able to ride the coat tail of Glen Juniper.
Glen was very generous with his guidance and I was grateful for the patient introduction to the sport he provided.
By the time the Owen Sound Greys hockey season started in the Fall of that year, we’d achieved a very natural on air partnership in very short order.
I always liked that Glen offered a calm, straight forward, common sense approach to his analysis & broadcast work.
Over the course of the next 4 decades Glen had many TV sports partners; Tony Ambrogio, Blair Andrews, Craig Foster, Gary Hahn, Manny Paiva, Steve Murley, Gord Chapman,……….it’s a very long list.
And I’m sure everyone of those people could see the passion that Glen brought, not only to his TV work, but to any aspect of his life;
– the pride in workmanship with his professional flooring and carpeting operation.
– the joy of a junket to Las Vegas
– the detail he put into coaching minor lacrosse & minor hockey
and the vision displayed overseeing the NorthStars Lacrosse organization as Team President.
Glen Juniper died earlier this month and impact was felt all over the region.
In the business community…….In Sports, especially for those connected to lacrosse and hockey in the city…and to those who worked with him at Rogers TV and the audience that tuned in to see the games week after week, year after year putting a very bright spotlight on local teams and athletes.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
