Cowessess First Nation of Saskatchewan reports 751 unmarked graves have been found on the grounds of the site of the former Marieval residential school east of Regina.
Chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nation Bobby Cameron says Canada will have to work with the First Nation in the spirit of reconciliation and that they expect a full and independent inquiry into the death site.
“Our people deserve justice,” he said. “Canada can start by handing over all of those records – the churches can start by handing over all of those records. To all of our allies – we need support as we grieve.”
Cameron says they won’t stop until they find every child.
