The Walk to End ALS returns this weekend as a virtual event!
ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, gradually paralyzes people because the brain is no longer able to communicate with the muscles of the body that we are typically able to move at will.
Over time, as the muscles of the body break down, someone living with ALS will lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow, and eventually breathe.
The event will go live on the ALS Canada Facebook page starting at 10a.m. Sunday.
Here is the schedule of events:
10:00am | Walk to End ALS start line:
Join us online at 10:00am to kick-off the Walk with our emcee, Justin Landry (you may recognize him from his many roles at our events and possibly from his work in The Handmaid’s Tale). Justin will get us warmed up and inspired for the day by speaking with Tammy Moore, CEO of ALS Canada, along with community members, Mike and Carmen Cels.
10:30am – 12:00pm | Your Walk, Your way:
We’ll have 90 minutes to complete our chosen activities (walking, cooking, dancing, meditation – anything that brings you joy!) and we’ll share updates from across the province throughout the day on the ALS Canada social media accounts. Be sure to take pictures to share with the community on social media by tagging @ALSCanada, your local Walk social media pages and use the hashtag #WalkToEndALS in your posts.
12:00pm | Walk to End ALS finish line:
Meet us back on the ALS Canada Facebook page for an hour of celebration! Expect celebrity appearances; live performances; messages from ALS community members, including Taya Jones; and recognition of top teams and fundraisers! Keep your eye out for a few surprises along the way. 😉
ALS doesn’t stop, and neither will we. That’s why we’re coming together for the #WalktoEndALS on June 20. TY MPP @MTaylorNDP for your message of support for the ALS community this #ALSAwarenessMonth. The @TourCNTower will light up in purple for #ALSAwarenessMonth and the #WalkToEndALS this Sunday! What a great way to celebrate our efforts. In Toronto, you'll be able to see the lighting after sunset as the sky darkens. More details: https://t.co/U6IT3LH97m pic.twitter.com/GzKN3NIzDK
