In the movie ” Mumford”, the talented Jason Lee plays the role of Skip Skipperton, the youthful town genius who essentially is responsible for the industrial well being of the town.
With this over riding pressure, the extremely wealthy ( & quirky ) Skipperton seeks the companionship of Dr Mumford for mental assistance, not through an office session, but rather by playing catch in a large field.
As they play catch, Lee/Skipperton tells Dr Mumford the name of his dog is ” Ainge “, as in Danny Ainge.
Lee-Skipperton says profoundly, ” Know what kind of athlete you have to be to be in the NBA and the Majors?
I was reminded of that line when seeing DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks running the 100 metres in his professional track debut.
Metcalf hasn’t competed in track since his high school days but his speed was highly publicized last season when he was clocked at 22.6 mph chasing down Budda Baker of the Arizona Cardinals’, preventing Baker from scoring a what looked like a sure defensive touchdown against Seattle.
Everybody has seen that play, including USA Track and Field who tweeted a whimsical invitation the following day for NFL players to test their speed “against real speed” at the Olympic trials.
Metcalf replied, “See you there.”
Running against top professionals, Metcalf posted a time of 10.37 seconds and finished 15th among the 17 runners who competed.
Former Olympic sprinter Ato Boldon said Metcalf did not embarrass himself
Metcalf for his part said he was excited for the opportunity.
What kind of athlete do you have to be to a 6 foot 4 inch, 230 pound NFL receiver capable of running a 10.37 in the 100 against the best American professionals in sprinting ?
