Nuclear supplier, Kinectrics says it is mourning a fatality of a vendor’s employee at its KI North facility in Tiverton.
The company says the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 am on June 14th, as two of the contractor’s workers were disassembling a large piece of equipment in the facility.
Kinectrics President and CEO David Harris says in a statement “We are devastated by the death of this individual,” adding “Our thoughts are with his family. We place the highest value on protecting the safety of our employees and contractors and we are heartbroken for the worker’s family, friends, and colleagues.”
The company says more information will me made available when it’s deemed appropriate.
The Ministry of Labour is investigating. An official says it was reported a worker received fatal injuries when struck by machinery. The worker was employed by a subcontractor, Western Mechanical Electrical Millwright Services Ltd. Two Ministry inspectors were assigned and attended. One requirement was issued to Kinectrics Inc.
