A vigil is planned in Owen Sound to show solidarity with Muslims following the attack on a London family that killed four and seriously injured another.
London police are calling it a hate motivated crime. On Sunday, a 20 year old man drove his pickup into a Muslim family walking down the street and killed a grandmother, a mother and father and a teenage girl. A nine year old boy was seriously injured.
The driver has been charged with four counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
One of Friday’s local event organizers, Waleed Aslam says the vigil will be held at 7 p.m. June 11th outside Owen Sound City Hall.
According to Ontario’s website, as of 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 11th, the Province’s reopening plan allows for, “Outdoor religious services, rites and ceremonies including weddings and funerals are permitted with capacity limited to permit physical distancing of 2 metres.”
Aslam says those in attendance are expected to wear masks and observe pandemic safety recommendations.
There will also be an opportunity to donate non-perishable food items to a local food bank at the event.
