Grey County has delivered on its pledge of contributing $1 million to the construction of the Markdale Hospital.
During today’s county council meeting Warden Selwyn Hicks virtually presented Grey Bruce Health Services President and CEO Gary Sims with a cheque for $780,000 for the new Hospital.
Hospital Chief of Communications and Public Affairs Mary Margaret Crapper says that monetary contribution, with the value of a land donation from the County, amounts to the $1 million pledge.
She says the Hospital is grateful for the contribution. The expected cost of the new hospital roughly 68,000 sq ft hospital is about $69 million. 90 per cent of the construction is funded by the government and ten per cent is funded by the community. Equipment and furniture is completely funded by the community.
Construction of the Markdale hospital is underway, with foundation walls starting to be put up in late May as work on the build continues to progress. The hope is to have the hospital open by 2023. Over 80 per cent of patients come from Grey County.
It will have a 24/7 Emergency Room, three exam rooms and a treatment room, four patient rooms, a palliative care room, Physiotherapy area, Procedures room, diagnostic imaging, ambulatory care, laboratory, and an atrium and café.
